Patients and Identity
The patient record is the centre of Elix. Every appointment, encounter, result, prescription and bill points back to it.
What it covers
- Registration and editing, with a care number per facility
- Search across the register
- Photos and documents
- Payers and providers linked to the patient
- Lists and classifications for programmes and cohorts; see Patient taxonomy
- Custom fields a facility adds to registration
Privacy
Each patient has a privacy mode. Most records are open to staff with the right permission. A restricted record needs a recorded break-glass reason before it opens, and a pseudonymised record shows a pseudonym in place of identifying fields.
Every patient-identifiable read states its purpose of use, and each read is logged against the patient, so a facility can show who opened a record and why.
Keeping a copy elsewhere
Systems that keep their own copy of the register, such as an external EMR or an offline station, can read the patient change feed: every patient changed since a cursor, oldest first. See Connect your EMR.
